GMA Design Group collaborated with ARCO National Construction Company to complete the renovation of a 116,766-square-foot cold storage facility for Alpine Foods California in Vernon, California. This comprehensive retrofit was designed to enhance operational efficiency, optimize temperature-controlled storage, and support the evolving needs of the food distribution industry.
A key feature of the facility is its advanced transcritical CO₂ refrigeration system, which provides a sustainable and highly efficient solution for temperature regulation. The facility includes over 40,000 square feet of freezer and cooler space, nearly 10,000 square feet of which is convertible, allowing for flexible temperature control ranging from -10°F to 40°F. This adaptability ensures that a variety of perishable products can be stored and managed effectively. Additionally, a dedicated 2,455-square-foot production cooler was designed to support produce processing operations, offering a controlled environment for food handling and preparation.
Beyond cold storage, the facility incorporates over 50,000 square feet of ambient storage space, providing Alpine Foods with the capacity to manage a diverse inventory under optimal conditions. The design prioritizes operational flow, integrating efficient loading and unloading zones to streamline logistics and maximize productivity.
